Homesteading in a Modern World

Great Morning Homesteaders/ Preppers and Survivalists – While driving into work this morning, I began to ponder the definition of “Homesteading

According to Wikipedia it is defined as: “Broadly defined, homesteading is a lifestyle of self-sufficiency. It is characterized by subsistence agriculture, home preservation of foodstuffs, and may or may not also include production of textiles, clothing, and craftwork for household use or sale. Conducted in different manners across the world in different historical eras, homesteading is generally differentiated from rural village or commune living by isolation of the homestead, either social or physical.”

In a sense I do feel this is correct; however to me there is a more defined purpose other than just self-sufficiency. To me “Homesteading” is about living with nature in its simplest forms. We take from the Earth only that which it can supply, we utilize what was taken to sustain ourselves and give back to it that which was taken. Homesteading is not just a hobby, it is a way of life; a way of persevering ourselves in a modern society, it’s about being in control of every aspect possible in our lives; all-in-all it is about a better quality of life.

So I ask all of you in your honest opinion what exactly is “Homesteading” to you?
